Network Support Engineer, NOC L1/L1.5
Overview
You will own network performance monitoring and issue resolution for a large-scale enterprise environment in Durham, NC. Your first 90 days focus on mastering the NOC workflows and triaging incidents across Cisco and Juniper stacks. You will join a 5-person team supporting 24/7 operations. This role stands out for its hands-on work with Kubernetes clusters and advanced routing protocols.
What You'll Do7
- 1Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues with OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP routing protocols.
- 2Implement and maintain VLANs, STP, EtherChannel, and other Layer 2 technologies.
- 3Triage and escalate network incidents to L2/L3 engineers, documenting actions in the ticketing system.
- 4Configure and validate changes on Cisco routers and switches using CLI.
- 5Support Kubernetes cluster networking, including Calico and MetalLB configurations.
- 6Develop runbooks for common network failures, reducing mean time to resolution.
- 7Collaborate with the NOC team to optimize alert thresholds and reduce false positives.
Requirements7
- 12+ years in network support or NOC environment, with hands-on routing and switching.
- 2Solid understanding of OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP with ability to analyze route tables.
- 3Experience with VLANs, STP, EtherChannel and Spanning Tree troubleshooting.
- 4Familiarity with Kubernetes networking concepts: Pods, Services, Ingress.
- 5Proficiency in Cisco IOS and Juniper Junos configuration and debugging.
- 6Working knowledge of network monitoring tools: SolarWinds, PRTG, or Nagios.
- 7CompTIA Network+ or CCNA certification is a plus.
