Overview
Mercor is partnering with a leading AI lab to bring experienced music professionals into a remote, task-based project evaluating generative AI music. You'll listen to AI-generated tracks across a wide range of genres and score them on musicality, creativity, prompt adherence, vocal quality, and production/mix quality. You'll also annotate songs using a structured taxonomy and assess lyrics and training data. This is a flexible, part-time freelance role that starts immediately and runs for up to six months.
What You'll Do4
- 1Compare AI-generated music samples side by side and rate them on musicality, creativity, how well they follow the prompt, vocal quality, and overall mix/production quality.
- 2Create detailed song annotations — classifying genre and sub-genre, mapping song structure, and noting vocal and instrumental characteristics using a defined taxonomy.
- 3Evaluate AI-generated lyrics and vocal performances against reference material to judge accuracy, expression, and quality.
- 4Score the quality of musical training data to help improve the AI model's output.
Requirements3
- 1Native or near-native Japanese proficiency and the ability to read and follow detailed written instructions in English.
- 2Professional or semi-professional music experience on one of two tracks: either at least 3 years as a music producer, audio engineer, or sound mixer (with comfort using audio-engineering vocabulary to describe a mix by ear), or deep knowledge of the Japanese music scene with experience as a songwriter, lyricist, performer, composer, or music journalist.
- 3Access to headphones or studio monitors suitable for careful, critical listening.
