Multi-Axis Lathe & Grinding Operator in Houston
Overview
You will own precision manufacturing on 2nd shift in Katy, TX, bringing complex parts to life through meticulous setups on CNC lathes and grinders. You will interpret blueprints, configure 5+ axis machines, and keep production flowing with hands-on troubleshooting. You will collaborate with a tight-knit team, using shop math and precision tools to deliver high-quality components. This role stands out because you master a full cell of equipment, from manual lathes to ERP software, with every shift offering new challenges.
What You'll Do8
- 1Configure CNC lathes (including 5+ axis), manual lathes, ID/OD grinders, and stamping presses for production runs.
- 2Set optimal machine parameters to hit tight tolerances and production targets within the first 90 days.
- 3Troubleshoot mechanical issues and apply corrective actions to cut downtime on the cell.
- 4Apply shop math to calculate dimensions, tolerances, and offsets for precision machining.
- 5Record production counts, quality checks, and performance data in ERP software.
- 6Inspect work in-process using calipers, micrometers, and optical comparators.
- 7Communicate status, issues, and needs clearly with your supervisor and team each shift.
- 8Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace following all safety protocols.
Requirements8
- 13+ years operating CNC lathes or similar machines in a manufacturing setting.
- 2Hands-on experience with manual grinders, manual lathes, punch presses, and 5+ axis CNC equipment.
- 3Proven mechanical troubleshooting skills, diagnosing and fixing issues on the fly.
- 4Comfort with shop math for precise measurements and calculations.
- 5Solid written and verbal communication skills for team coordination and reporting.
- 6Knowledge of ID and OD grinding and stamping press operations.
- 7Discipline to follow work instructions precisely and keep detailed records.
- 8Team-focused approach, ready to support colleagues and share best practices.
