Overview
You will lead a middle school science classroom at KIPP DC, one of the highest performing public school systems in Washington, DC, serving 7,500+ students across 22 schools. You will own instruction, classroom culture, and student outcomes, delivering standards-aligned lessons with a focus on culturally responsive teaching and data-driven strategies. You will collaborate with a team of 1,500 dedicated educators, receive coaching and professional development, and participate in collaborative planning. This role offers a starting salary of $65,500 with a clear salary scale, and the opportunity to shape joyful, academically excellent classrooms.
What You'll Do8
- 1Teach standards-aligned science lessons to middle school students, using student data to plan reteach, intervention, and enrichment.
- 2Build an inclusive and identity-affirming classroom culture that fosters belonging and student voice.
- 3Collaborate with grade-level and content teams to plan instruction, analyze data, and respond to student needs.
- 4Communicate regularly with families, providing academic updates and support plans.
- 5Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and weekly planning meetings.
- 6Implement feedback from school leaders and content coaches to refine instructional practice.
- 7Perform schoolwide duties such as arrival, lunch, and dismissal supervision.
- 8Complete clerical tasks supporting instruction and compliance, including student records and progress reports.
Requirements7
- 1Bachelor's degree in any field.
- 21+ years of teaching experience in a PreK3–12 school, or an education degree with student teaching.
- 3Commitment to working with students from communities with limited access to high-quality education.
- 4Preferred: Bachelor's degree in science or related field.
- 5Preferred: Experience teaching in an urban K-12 public school.
- 6Preferred: Strong communication skills with families and caregivers.
- 7Must be able to remain in a classroom for extended periods and monitor students throughout the school building.
