Medical Lab Scientist, Core Lab (Evenings)
Overview
You will own specimen processing and high-complexity testing in the Core Lab at Morristown Medical Center, a Magnet hospital with Level I Trauma status. You will run CLIA-regulated tests, troubleshoot equipment, and report accurate results that drive patient care decisions. Collaborating with a team of lab scientists and supervisors, you will ensure quality control and regulatory compliance. This evening shift role offers direct impact on patient outcomes and growth within a leading non-profit health system.
What You'll Do8
- 1Evaluate specimen and test orders for acceptability, rejecting or accepting them per established guidelines.
- 2Run high-complexity tests using LIS and HIS systems, following approved SOPs.
- 3Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot lab equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
- 4Perform and document quality control activities, including instrument calibrations and maintenance records.
- 5Participate in proficiency testing, treating samples the same as patient samples.
- 6Manage inventory by rotating stock and checking expiration dates to maintain compliance.
- 7Assist with training new team members and students, sharing your technical expertise.
- 8Communicate clearly with healthcare teams to clarify questionable results and ensure patient safety.
Requirements8
- 1Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical, or biological science.
- 2Meet CLIA personnel requirements for high-complexity testing (or equivalent education and training).
- 31 year healthcare or lab work experience preferred.
- 4ASCP or AMT certification preferred.
- 5Foreign education credentials require US equivalency documentation by an approved agency.
- 6Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- 7Effective communication and problem-solving abilities.
- 8Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
