Medical Assistant, Urgent Care - UPMC GoHealth
Overview
You own patient care at a UPMC GoHealth Urgent Care center, managing each visit from check-in to discharge for 30-50 patients daily. You work alongside a dedicated team of providers, nurses, and Medical Assistants in a fast-paced clinical setting, with direct support from onsite managers focused on your growth. This role stands out with a $2,000 sign-on bonus, monthly incentive pay, and 208 hours of annual PTO, plus clear pathways to advance your clinical skills.
What You'll Do10
- 1Register patients, verify insurance and eligibility, and collect co-pays at the front desk.
- 2Interview patients to record medical history and confirm the purpose of each visit.
- 3Measure vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, height) and escalate critical cases to the provider.
- 4Draw and collect blood samples, prepare specimens for lab analysis, and conduct point-of-care tests (flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG).
- 5Prepare exam rooms, stock supplies, check expiration dates, and ensure providers have necessary medical equipment.
- 6Maintain medical records, scan charts into patient files, and coordinate provider referrals to specialists.
- 7Answer phone calls, manage incoming/outgoing mail, and perform courtesy callbacks for patient follow-up.
- 8Execute opening and closing duties: cash out, end-of-day communication, and building security.
- 9Perform daily equipment controls and calibration, log QC results, troubleshoot breakdowns, and submit repair tickets.
- 10Maintain cleanliness of reception and exam rooms, ensuring a welcoming environment for patients.
Requirements10
- 11+ years working as a Medical Assistant in a hospital, primary care, emergency department, or urgent care setting, or an active MA certification (e.g., CCMA, CMA, RMA, NCMA, NRCMA).
- 2High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 3BLS certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association required at hire.
- 4CPOE certification required within 2 weeks of hire if no MA certification at hire.
- 5Graduates of an accredited nursing school with LPN or LVN license also qualify.
- 6EMT or Paramedic certification accepted in lieu of MA experience.
- 7Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- 8Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- 9Ability to type quickly and use basic computer systems.
- 10Detail-oriented with ability to work in a team and adapt to fast-changing patient needs.
