Maintenance Manager, Heavy Industrial & Utilities
Overview
Lead mechanical maintenance and plant utility operations for a heavy industrial manufacturer southeast of Dearborn. Own reliability of boilers, steam, compressed air, pumps, and water systems while managing a skilled maintenance crew. Work hands-on across the plant floor, coordinating daily repairs, preventative maintenance, shutdowns, and outages. This role reports directly to plant leadership and drives uptime for critical production equipment. You will also mentor a team of maintenance personnel and partner with planners to execute maintenance schedules.
What You'll Do9
- 1Direct daily maintenance activities for mechanical maintenance crews and boiler operators, prioritizing work orders and adjusting to plant needs.
- 2Own reliability of boilers, steam, compressed air, pumps, and water systems; troubleshoot failures and implement corrective actions.
- 3Partner with maintenance planners to schedule preventative and corrective maintenance, minimizing downtime.
- 4Coordinate repairs, shutdowns, and planned outages, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
- 5Maintain a strong presence on the plant floor, resolving issues in real time and monitoring job progress.
- 6Enforce LOTO and safety procedures across all maintenance tasks, ensuring compliance with plant standards.
- 7Manage contractors and outside trades during peak workloads and specialized repairs.
- 8Identify recurring equipment failures and drive reliability improvements to boost uptime.
- 9Champion continuous improvement initiatives aimed at equipment performance and maintenance practices.
Requirements8
- 15+ years leading maintenance teams as a Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, or Utilities Supervisor.
- 2Hands-on expertise with boilers, steam systems, compressed air, pumps, and piping.
- 3Experience in heavy manufacturing, automotive, steel, foundry, chemical, or similar industrial environments.
- 4Proven record of managing preventative maintenance programs, shutdowns, and outages.
- 5Working knowledge of LOTO, safety compliance, and industrial regulatory inspections.
- 6Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical equipment and utility systems.
- 7Ability to lead skilled trades personnel and foster a safety-first culture.
- 8Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and CMMS platforms.
