Overview

Mail Programmer and Processor owns the full-cycle mail preparation for a high-volume print and direct mail operation in Chantilly, VA. You will program mailings using Postal 1 software, verify USPS regulations, apply address correction and move update, and physically assemble and tray the mail. You will work alongside a tight-knit bindery and logistics team, stepping in to assist with finishing and shipping when mail volume allows. What You'll Do9

  • 1Program mail jobs in Postal 1, setting up runs to maximize postal discounts and meet USPS specifications.
  • 2Run address hygiene and move update (NCOA) processes to ensure deliverability and compliance with USPS regulations.
  • 3Generate and affix tray tags, and physically tray mail pieces according to destination and class, ensuring accurate count and labeling.
  • 4Troubleshoot and resolve mail programming errors in real time, adjusting sort schemes and presort sequences to maintain production flow.
  • 5Coordinate with the bindery team to schedule mail preparation around finishing operations, and step in to assist with bindery equipment when mail volume is light.
  • 6Support logistics tasks, including staging and loading finished mail trays for dispatch, and maintain inventory of mail supplies and labels.
  • 7Document standard operating procedures for mail programming and processing tasks as they are refined.
  • 8Collaborate with the operations manager to identify and implement process improvements that reduce errors and improve turnaround.
  • 9Provide backup for other production roles as needed, including bindery, inserting, and shipping.

Requirements9

  • 15+ years hands-on experience in mail programming and processing within a print or mailing facility.
  • 2Proficiency with Postal 1 software and current USPS regulations, including tray tagging and traying rules.
  • 3Working knowledge of move update and NCOA processes, and experience applying USPS address standards.
  • 4Ability to read and interpret mailing manifests and postal documentation to ensure compliance.
  • 5Strong attention to detail and ability to perform precise, repetitive tasks without error.
  • 6Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in a production environment.
  • 7Team mindset with willingness to assist in bindery or logistics tasks when mail work is complete.
  • 8Bonus: Experience with InDesign for creating or editing print-ready files.
  • 9High school diploma or equivalent required.
