Library Information Assistant at NYPL
Overview
You will serve patrons of all ages at Hamilton Grange Library, answering reference questions, providing circulation services, and supporting outreach and programming. You will work with MS Office, Google applications, and e-reader devices to guide exploration of print, media, and digital resources. What You'll Do8
- 1Provide circulation and reference service using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- 2Answer patron questions in person, over the phone, and electronically
- 3Conduct community outreach to boost library participation and use of services
- 4Assist in planning and delivering programs for children, teens, and adults
- 5Instruct patrons on internet use, computer applications, and library services
- 6Manage fines and fees, collection weeding, reserves, and opening and closing procedures
- 7Enforce library policies and ensure a welcoming environment
- 8Oversee facility and staff in the absence of the Library Manager
Requirements9
- 1Bachelor's degree required, preferably with a liberal arts background
- 2Experience in community training, programming, or outreach preferred
- 3Demonstrated public service experience with diverse groups
- 4Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- 5Ability to work as part of a team
- 6Appreciation of literature and a desire to encourage reading
- 7Strong organizational and planning skills, handling multiple tasks
- 8Computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google applications
- 9Knowledge of online searching, social media, and reference databases
