Overview
A senior legal domain expert will collaborate with an AI lab and project teams to enhance how frontier models reason about real world legal work. You’ll craft instruction specs, define golden solutions, and build benchmarks that prove the model’s true capabilities. This role emphasizes deep legal practice and clear, teachable criteria rather than broad knowledge. The position is full-time and based in the Bay Area with on-site collaboration as needed.
What You'll Do4
- 1Assess the quality of legal knowledge tasks and model outputs to identify gaps in reasoning and risky answers
- 2Create precise instruction specifications and generate gold-standard solutions for legal scenarios
- 3Develop challenging, domain-specific evaluation sets and contribute to building legal tools and capabilities with researchers
- 4Coordinate with client researchers and adjacent domain experts to maintain consistent standards and translate tacit judgments into explicit criteria
Requirements6
- 1Juris Doctor from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials
- 2Minimum of 5 years of substantive post-qualification legal practice at a reputable organization
- 3Deep specialization in at least one core legal practice area (eg corporate transactional, litigation, regulatory, IP, employment, tax)
- 4Active state bar admission in good standing and demonstrated senior-level responsibility
- 5Practical experience using large language models in professional work and strong judgment to distinguish solid conclusions from plausible but incorrect ones
- 6Ability to commit to 40 hours per week for an initial 6 month term and on-site Bay Area availability
