Lead Tree Climber, Advanced Arboriculture
Overview
You will own advanced climbing work for a growing tree care operation in San Jose, handling pruning and removals on trees up to 100 feet. You lead the climbing crew, train entry-level climbers, and run rigging operations with Climbing Gear and Rigging Systems. Your work sets the safety standard for the division. This role offers steady full-time pay, benefits, and year-end profit sharing.
What You'll Do8
- 1Climb and prune trees up to 100 feet using advanced techniques with minimal supervision.
- 2Navigate obstacles like structures and utility wires while maintaining precise control of Climbing Ropes and Rigging Systems.
- 3Operate Chainsaws of all sizes aloft to execute cuts for health, structure, and removals.
- 4Tie off and lower large branches using proper rigging methods, directing the ground crew with clear commands.
- 5Fell trees safely and efficiently, including specimens over 50-100 feet tall.
- 6Inspect and operate Boom Trucks and Aerial Lifts per safety protocols for pruning and removals.
- 7Train and mentor entry-level climbers, modeling safe work habits and advanced knot-tying techniques.
- 8Assess each tree and site for hazards, adjusting plans to protect the crew and public.
Requirements8
- 13+ years of professional tree climbing experience.
- 2Mastery of Climbing Gear, Rigging Systems, and advanced knot-tying.
- 3Proven skill with Chainsaws of all sizes, including pruning and removal cuts.
- 4Ability to operate and inspect Boom Trucks and Aerial Lifts safely.
- 5Strong knowledge of arboricultural standards for pruning and safe removal practices.
- 6CA Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
- 7Physical fitness for heights up to 100 feet and challenging outdoor conditions.
- 8Leadership experience directing ground crews and training junior climbers.
Salary Insight
$60 - $71k per year
