Overview
As the Lead Respiratory Care Practitioner, you will coordinate shift operations at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital, a full-service acute-care hospital with a 725,000-square-foot campus and recent Healing Tower expansion. You'll lead a team of RCPs and support staff, serving as the primary liaison between management, physicians, and staff, ensuring exceptional patient care and adherence to standards of practice. What You'll Do10
- 1Lead and mentor a team of RCPs, students, and support staff, conducting orientation and on-the-job training to build clinical competency and confidence.
- 2Serve as the primary point of contact for resolving questions and issues on your shift, coordinating with management and physicians for smooth operations and optimal patient care.
- 3Organize work schedules, assign tasks, and review time cards to ensure accurate documentation and efficient staffing.
- 4Conduct quality assurance audits on equipment, processes, and staff performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
- 5Execute advanced respiratory procedures, including Neonatal Resuscitation, ECMO support, and Bronchoscopy assistance, demonstrating above-average clinical skills.
- 6Partner with physicians to perform diagnostic tests, assess results, and adapt interventions in challenging patient care situations.
- 7Drive service improvements by monitoring patient throughput and satisfaction, using peer-to-peer accountability to uphold service standards.
- 8Lead department projects and participate in shared governance committees, contributing to policy development and accreditation compliance.
- 9Document patient procedures accurately, entering charges at the time of service to ensure financial accountability.
- 10Provide direct feedback on team member performance to management, assisting with skill development and retention initiatives.
Requirements10
- 14+ years experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner with 2+ years in ICU, Neonatal, or ER settings, plus lead/supervisory experience.
- 2Current RRT certification from the NBRC and active RCP license from the Texas Medical Board.
- 3Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications from the American Heart Association or American Academy of Pediatrics.
- 4Obtain one of the following within 6 months: RRT-ACCS, NPS, CPFT, RPFT, RRT-SDS, AE-C, TTS, or RPSGT.
- 5Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required certifications.
- 6Demonstrated leadership abilities with progressive responsibility in a healthcare setting.
- 7Sufficient proficiency in English to ensure patient and employee safety, with strong communication skills.
- 8Ability to work independently and make sound clinical judgments in challenging situations.
- 9Basic computer proficiency with hospital and respiratory information systems, including Microsoft Office.
- 10Adapt to multiple priorities with minimal supervision, organizing workflows and participating in problem-solving.
