Overview
This hands-on leadership role owns production quality and workflow for a small studio team in Los Angeles. You will shape complex builds from drawings to installation, coordinating with project managers and mentoring junior fabricators. What You'll Do7
- 1Lead fabrication work on complex builds, working with metal, wood, and plastics to meet project specs.
- 2Coordinate with project managers to translate technical drawings into actionable shop plans and track progress.
- 3Delegate tasks and manage daily workflow for junior fabricators to meet production timelines.
- 4Enforce quality control by inspecting work against drawings and client expectations.
- 5Troubleshoot material, structural, and logistical challenges as they arise.
- 6Mentor junior fabricators in welding and fabrication techniques to build team skills.
- 7Ensure shop safety by modeling and enforcing safe use of hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
Requirements8
- 15+ years experience in custom fabrication, public art, scenic construction, or design-build.
- 2Proficiency in welding and working with metal, wood, plastics, or composites.
- 3Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and shop plans.
- 4Comfort with hand tools, power tools, and fabrication machinery.
- 5Strong communication skills for collaboration with project managers and designers.
- 6Experience coordinating with project managers, designers, or engineers.
- 7Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work safely in a physically active shop environment.
- 8CAD design experience is a plus.
