Overview

You will lead facility maintenance and technical operations for the San Francisco SPCA, a nonprofit serving thousands of animals annually. What You'll Do10

  • 1Lead and perform hands-on troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • 2Conduct routine inspections to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance with regulatory standards, documenting all findings.
  • 3Serve as the Building Engineer designee, overseeing daily operations, project execution, and team coordination in their absence.
  • 4Mentor and train technicians through hands-on coaching, focusing on high-quality workmanship and BKW standard operating procedures.
  • 5Coordinate and supervise contractors performing maintenance, repairs, and inspections, ensuring compliance with safety standards and site procedures.
  • 6Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, and operational documentation using Microsoft Office and cloud-based tools.
  • 7Ensure proper operation of life-safety systems, including fire alarms, suppression systems, panels, and emergency equipment.
  • 8Plan and execute facility projects, managing scheduling, resource allocation, and communication with stakeholders.
  • 9Promote a safe work environment by identifying and correcting hazards, and enforcing OSHA compliance and PPE use.
  • 10Deliver responsive facilities support that fosters positive relationships with staff, volunteers, clients, and vendors.

Requirements10

  • 15+ years of experience in building engineering or facilities maintenance.
  • 22+ years mentoring or leading technical maintenance teams.
  • 3Demonstrated mastery in plumbing, electrical, HVAC/mechanical, automotive, carpentry, sheetrock, and painting.
  • 4Experience coordinating facility projects and vendor work in multi-building environments.
  • 5Valid California Driver's License and insurable driving record.
  • 6Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and multi-trade repair skills.
  • 7Ability to coach and train team members with varying skill levels.
  • 8Effective verbal and written communication, with clear documentation skills.
  • 9Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and cloud-based collaboration tools.
  • 10Willingness to accommodate animals in the workplace and commitment to the SF SPCA mission.
