Overview
The Laboratory Assistant will own specimen handling processes and drive improvements across a high volume lab. This role differs by focusing on specimen workflow optimization and cross functional collaboration.
What You'll Do11
- 1Handle and process patient specimens including blood urine and body fluids
- 2Ensure proper specimen collection containers and labeling requirements are followed
- 3Prepare specimens for testing storage and transport per lab procedures
- 4Operate centrifuges and other laboratory equipment
- 5Store and ship specimens at appropriate temperatures within required timeframes
- 6Monitor automation equipment and report issues
- 7Maintain accurate tracking documentation for all specimens
- 8Log specimens and enter patient/specimen data into the Laboratory Information System
- 9Review incoming specimens for identification integrity and compliance
- 10Identify and resolve specimen identification integrity issues during accessioning
- 11Ensure compliance with lab policies procedures and quality standards
Requirements7
- 1High School Diploma or equivalent GED HiSET TASC or equivalent
- 2Minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience
- 3Strong attention to detail and accuracy with patient specimen information
- 4Phlebotomy Certification preferred
- 5Other laboratory related certifications a plus
- 6Minimum 1 year of experience as a Phlebotomist
- 7Knowledge of specimen accessioning processing and shipping procedures
