Labor & Delivery RN - Night Shift San Diego
Overview
Own the labor and delivery unit at Kaiser Permanente San Diego, providing skilled nursing care for mothers and newborns in a 24-bed unit. You'll lead the care team, coordinate with physicians, and ensure safe deliveries with Advanced Fetal Monitoring and Neonatal Resuscitation Program certifications. Part-time nights (24 hours/week) with every other weekend. This role demands clinical precision and a calm presence in a fast-paced environment.
What You'll Do10
- 1Lead the nursing care team during night shifts, delegating tasks and ensuring compliance with Kaiser Permanente policies and state regulations.
- 2Develop individualized care plans for laboring patients, integrating continuous fetal monitoring and pain management protocols to optimize outcomes.
- 3Perform comprehensive assessments and escalate issues through the chain of command when patient conditions change.
- 4Coordinate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to manage high-risk deliveries, including emergency cesarean sections.
- 5Document all interventions and assessments in EPIC within the shift, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- 6Educate patients and families on labor progression, postpartum care, and newborn feeding techniques upon discharge.
- 7Maintain a safe environment by adhering to standard precautions and preventing falls and nosocomial infections.
- 8Mentor new nurses and orient them to unit operations, including Advanced Fetal Monitoring and NRP protocols.
- 9Collaborate with the LMP team to improve patient satisfaction scores and reduce readmission rates.
- 10Cross-train to postpartum or nursery as needed, covering emergent staffing gaps.
Requirements8
- 11 year of recent (within 3 years) full-time equivalent experience in Labor & Delivery or completion of KP L&D course within 12 months.
- 2Active California RN License and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- 3AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certificate at hire or within 12 months.
- 4Kaiser Permanente Fetal Assessment Monitoring (PPSP) Certification at hire.
- 5Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification at hire.
- 6Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- 7Ability to work every other weekend and required night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM).
- 8Willingness to cross-train to at least one other perinatal area (postpartum, nursery, triage).
Salary Insight
