Overview
Axle is an AI-native clearinghouse for insurance, processing mission-critical data extraction for Fortune 500 banks and brands like Hertz and Avis. As the Infrastructure & Security Engineer, you will own the cloud infrastructure on AWS and GCP, ensuring reliability and security across compute, storage, and networking. You will design CI/CD pipelines with Terraform and Kubernetes, embed security controls, and protect sensitive insurance data. You will work with a lean team, directly impacting a platform handling millions in ARR. This role stands out for its scope: you will shape infrastructure and security from the ground up, driving compliance readiness for SOC 2.
What You'll Do9
- 1Design and maintain cloud infrastructure across compute, storage, and networking on AWS and GCP, scaling to handle increasing data loads.
- 2Build and improve CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions and ArgoCD, enabling fast, reliable releases.
- 3Implement security controls across applications, APIs, and cloud infrastructure, using IAM, WAF, and VPC configurations.
- 4Protect sensitive insurance and customer data by building encryption, key management, and data loss prevention systems.
- 5Deploy monitoring, alerting, and observability stacks with Prometheus, Grafana, and Datadog to maintain high uptime.
- 6Develop internal tooling and automation scripts in Python and Bash to improve developer velocity.
- 7Support SOC 2 compliance by documenting controls, maintaining evidence, and participating in audits.
- 8Partner with engineering and product teams to embed security into the development lifecycle, balancing speed and safety.
- 9Drive incident response workflows, including on-call rotations, postmortems, and security fixes.
Requirements8
- 16+ years of experience in cloud, infrastructure, or security engineering.
- 2Strong understanding of application security, cloud security on AWS or GCP, and common vulnerability classes.
- 3Experience scaling and securing production systems, including authentication, authorization, and data protection.
- 4Strong understanding of CI/CD systems, monitoring, and observability.
- 5Experience with security tooling such as Snyk, Aqua Security, and incident response workflows.
- 6Highly pragmatic, able to prioritize risks and implement effective, scalable solutions.
- 7Strong ownership mindset, able to operate independently in ambiguous environments.
- 8Clear communicator, able to work effectively with engineers, product teams, and leadership.
Salary Insight
$180 - $250k per year
