Senior AI Engineer, Cloud-Native & AI-Assisted Development
Overview
You will own the AI-first engineering transformation at CNA, driving adoption of AI-assisted development practices across enterprise platforms that process millions of claims. You will lead a team of engineers in building scalable, cloud-native, API-driven solutions, embedding GitHub Copilot, Claude, and Cursor into daily workflows while setting governance standards for AI-generated code. Your stack spans Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, and AWS, with opportunities to influence Guidewire implementations. This hands-on leadership role combines deep engineering with vision-setting, offering a chance to reshape how 1,000+ developers deliver software.
What You'll Do10
- 1Define the AI-first engineering strategy, championing adoption of GitHub Copilot, Claude, and Cursor across development teams.
- 2Mentor engineers in responsible AI tool usage, coaching on prompt design, code review, and validation of AI-generated outputs.
- 3Establish governance models for AI-assisted development, ensuring quality, security, compliance, and maintainability of generated code.
- 4Design and deliver scalable, cloud-native, API-first solutions using Java, Spring Boot, and Kubernetes.
- 5Guide teams in adopting event-driven architectures and microservices, integrating with Kafka and REST APIs.
- 6Build automation frameworks and reusable patterns for testing, CI/CD, and observability, accelerating delivery velocity.
- 7Collaborate with product and architecture teams to align AI-driven solutions with business outcomes, prioritizing high-impact features.
- 8Provide technical oversight for complex programs, steering cross-functional initiatives to production readiness.
- 9Evaluate emerging AI and developer productivity tools, piloting and rolling out the best fit for enterprise needs.
- 10Support production troubleshooting and performance tuning, ensuring reliability of critical insurance systems.
Requirements10
- 18+ years in software engineering, including 3+ years in technical leadership or architecture roles.
- 2Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants: GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor, or similar, with proven governance of AI output.
- 3Strong expertise in Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, microservices, and distributed systems.
- 4Experience designing API-first and event-driven architectures, with Kafka or equivalent.
- 5Proficiency in Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
- 6Solid understanding of secure coding practices and compliance in AI-enabled environments.
- 7Familiarity with React or modern UI frameworks for full-stack development.
- 8Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with ability to influence without authority.
- 9Strong communication and stakeholder management, collaborating across distributed teams.
- 10Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field; Guidewire experience preferred but not required.
