Industrial Paint Process Technician
Overview
Own the powder coat paint line, pretreatment, and wastewater systems at a high-volume manufacturing plant. You keep powder coating equipment running, manage chemical dosing, and ensure environmental compliance. Work with Maintenance, Engineering, Production, and Environmental teams to hit production goals. This role stands out with a continental 2-2-3 schedule and hands-on work across EPA and OSHA standards.
What You'll Do10
- 1Monitor and troubleshoot automated powder coating equipment including pumps, valves, spray guns, conveyors, and robots for mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic issues.
- 2Read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, blueprints, and customer paint specs to guide repairs and adjustments.
- 3Manage chemical levels in tanks using titration, conductivity, and pH readings; keep accurate records of chemical usage and findings.
- 4Ensure compliance with EPA, MoDNR, OSHA, and ISO-14001 by performing sampling, testing, and analysis for water pollution levels.
- 5Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on paint and pretreatment systems; maintain spare parts inventory.
- 6Operate forklift, high lift, and other maintenance equipment to support line operations.
- 7Start up and monitor the paint line to meet production, safety, and quality goals across cleaning, pretreatment, paint, cure, and wastewater stages.
- 8Calibrate and verify testing equipment; conduct lab, visual, and physical inspections of paint processes and product.
- 9Train other paint technicians and update written operating procedures and inspection standards.
- 10Document work in CMMS (Funnel Cloud) and communicate with shift leaders and maintenance on quality and safety concerns.
Requirements10
- 1Wastewater treatment certification within 12 months of start; Hazardous Waste Training Level 1 and DOT Hazmat training.
- 2Licensed forklift operator with confined space and spill team training.
- 3High School diploma/GED required; Associate's degree in Skilled Trades preferred.
- 43+ years experience with industrial mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- 5Competence with gas, arc, MIG, and TIG welding.
- 6Thorough knowledge of spray equipment, processes, and chemicals like zinc phosphate and electro/powder coat.
- 7Preferred experience with cathodic electrodeposition coatings and wastewater treatment.
- 8Ability to read technical drawings and use testing instruments; basic math skills.
- 9Proficiency with computers, software, and pH/conductivity meters.
- 10Comfortable working with liquid, granular, and powder chemicals; knowledge of safety protocols.
