HVACR PM Apprentice, Commercial Refrigeration Maintenance
Overview
You will support senior technicians in performing preventative maintenance and basic service on commercial HVAC and refrigeration equipment across the Washington, DC area. You will learn to inspect, clean, and troubleshoot systems like walk-in coolers, ice machines, and rooftop units. As an apprentice on a dedicated team, you will receive hands-on coaching, manufacturer training, and certification paths. This role offers a clear path to full technician status with wage growth as you build skills.
What You'll Do8
- 1Assist senior technicians with preventative maintenance on walk-in coolers, freezers, reach-ins, ice machines, rooftop units, and split systems.
- 2Perform routine PM tasks: clean coils, change filters, inspect belts, check electrical connections, and verify refrigeration levels.
- 3Identify and report early signs of system wear or failure to senior technicians.
- 4Support basic troubleshooting and minor repairs under supervision, including proper refrigeration handling and EPA compliance.
- 5Document service calls, parts used, labor hours, and customer interactions in the company system.
- 6Maintain organized truck inventory and ensure proper care of tools and equipment.
- 7Follow all safety guidelines and company policies while delivering professional customer service onsite.
- 8Participate in ongoing technical training and certification programs, gradually assuming greater responsibility.
Requirements10
- 10-2 years of HVAC, refrigeration, or mechanical experience preferred.
- 2Trade school or technical school training strongly preferred.
- 3EPA Universal Certification preferred or willingness to obtain within first year.
- 4Valid driver's license with clean driving record required.
- 5Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
- 6Ability to read and interpret basic wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
- 7Strong work ethic and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- 8Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in varying indoor/outdoor conditions.
- 9Ability to climb ladders, work from heights, and crawl in tight quarters.
- 10Willingness to participate in on-call rotation as skills progress.
