HR Manager - Construction Company
Overview
We seek an experienced HR Manager to lead talent acquisition and employee relations for our heavy civil and underground utility construction firm in the DC area. This role reports to the HR and Safety Director and supports the workforce across craft field and professional positions. The ideal candidate will partner with superintendents project managers and safety leaders to attract retain and develop skilled employees.
What You'll Do11
- 1Lead recruitment for craft field and professional roles sourcing screening interviewing and offer closure in a competitive market
- 2Manage employee relations handling investigations progressive discipline documentation and terminations with legal counsel
- 3Ensure compliance with federal state and local employment laws including wage hour FLSA FMLA ADA EEO and leave policies
- 4Administer benefits enrollment COBRA and answer employee policy questions
- 5Coordinate onboarding and orientation ensuring new hires especially field staff understand safety culture and expectations
- 6Maintain accurate employee records personnel files and HRIS payroll data with payroll finance
- 7Support performance management cycles providing documentation reminders and coaching for managers
- 8Assist with workers compensation reporting light duty coordination and return to work initiatives
- 9Respond to employee inquiries on policies pay benefits and workplace issues with professionalism
- 10Contribute to improving HR processes templates and manager toolkits for construction environments
- 11Work with prevailing wage Davis Bacon compliance teams
Requirements11
- 15+ years progressive HR experience including employee relations and recruiting
- 2Field based multi site construction workforce experience
- 3Knowledge of core employment laws in non union settings
- 4Strong interpersonal skills building trust with craft workers supervisors and executives
- 5Proficiency with HRIS payroll systems Microsoft Office and record keeping
- 6Bilingual English Spanish required for craft workforce support
- 7Prior HR experience in heavy civil highway utility or general contracting
- 8SHRM-CP PHR or equivalent certification preferred
- 9Experience supporting both craft and professional staff
- 10Ability to commute to Capitol Heights MD 20743
- 115 years hands on employee relations and recruiting
Salary Insight
$85 - $105k per year
