Heavy Equipment Operator, Excavation & Site Work
Overview
You will run excavators and backhoes on residential site work, utilities, and septic installation across the greater Boston area. Your day starts with equipment inspection, then you dig, grade, and place pipe to spec. The team handles full site packages from rough grade to final punch. This role is for operators who want steady work with a tight crew, no bench time. You will carry a Mass Hoisting License and a Medical Card from day one.
What You'll Do9
- 1Operate excavators and backhoes for trenching, grading, and backfilling on residential lots
- 2Install septic systems, including tank placement and leach field construction, to code
- 3Coordinate with laborers on pipe laying, compaction, and site cleanup
- 4Conduct daily equipment checks, grease points, and fluid levels before first dig
- 5Load and haul materials with dump truck and lowboy as needed, holding a CDL if endorsed
- 6Follow site plans and grade stakes to maintain slope and elevation tolerances
- 7Communicate with foreman on utility locations and underground conflicts
- 8Secure trench boxes and shoring, and maintain safe access and exit points
- 9Complete daily equipment logs and report mechanical issues immediately
Requirements8
- 13+ years running excavators and backhoes on active construction sites
- 2Mass Hoisting License required for equipment operation
- 3Medical Card required for DOT compliance
- 4Experience with residential utilities, septic, and site grading
- 5CDL preferred for driving dump trucks and lowboys
- 6Ability to read grade stakes and site plans
- 7Reliable transportation to Boston jobsites
- 8Steel-toe boots and high-visibility vest required
