Health Information Specialist, Medical Records & HIPAA
Overview
You will own the release of information (ROI) process for a medical facility in Englewood, NJ, handling medical record requests and ensuring HIPAA compliance for all protected health information. Working onsite with a collaborative team, you will retrieve and compile records from EMR systems, generate reports, and support daily operations. You will train on Datavant DHISC and gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced healthcare setting. What You'll Do10
- 1Process ROI requests from patients, providers, and other requestors within 24 hours.
- 2Retrieve and compile medical records from EMR systems like Epic and Cerner.
- 3Verify authorization forms and ensure HIPAA compliance for every release.
- 4Generate productivity and quality reports using Excel and Access.
- 5Track and document all requests in the ROI log, maintaining accurate records.
- 6Coordinate with clinical staff to obtain missing documentation or clarify requests.
- 7Cover for onsite staff during PTO and call-outs, ensuring uninterrupted service.
- 8Maintain a 95% accuracy rate on all released records.
- 9Escalate complex or high-risk requests to the supervisor for review.
- 10Support the team with administrative tasks such as faxing, scanning, and filing.
Requirements9
- 1High School Diploma or GED required.
- 21+ years of experience in health information management or a related healthcare setting.
- 3Working knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules and ROI processes.
- 4Proficiency with EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or NextGen.
- 5Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and data entry.
- 6Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- 7Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- 8Must be 18 years or older and able to commute between facilities as needed.
- 9Willingness to complete post-offer health screenings and vaccinations as required.
