Handyman, General Maintenance & Carpentry
Overview
You will own residential and light commercial maintenance at the Dallas VA Medical Center, working under government supervision. You'll handle pipe fitting, welding, electrical and mechanical repairs, and building maintenance across a large facility. Your work ensures safe, functional spaces for veterans and staff. What You'll Do10
- 1Alter and install walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, doors, and windows, including trim and finishes.
- 2Construct drywall partitions and temporary wood-framed structures.
- 3Install windows and doors, mortising frames for locks and strike plates.
- 4Install acoustical ceilings and floor coverings, including carpet and other materials.
- 5Build concrete forms for sidewalks, curbing, and steps.
- 6Work with Formica, laminate coverings, and paneling.
- 7Fabricate furniture such as tables, cabinets, and workbenches.
- 8Construct and install bulletin boards, chalkboards, cabinets, and shelving.
- 9Dismantle machines and equipment using hoists, cranes, hand tools, or power tools to access and remove defective parts.
- 10Perform routine maintenance, inspecting drives, motors, belts, and fluid levels, and replacing filters.
Requirements6
- 1Previous experience as a handyman or general maintenance worker.
- 2Knowledge of OSHA job site safety rules and regulations.
- 3Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in carpentry.
- 4Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- 5Qualified to work at heights above 30 feet using ladders, lifts, or bucket trucks.
- 6Ability to lift 40+ lbs consistently.
