GIS Technician, CAD & Utility Mapping
Overview
You will own the creation of utility network designs and work prints for an engineering customer in Boston. Working onsite with the Engineering and Construction teams, you will produce maps, diagrams, and drawings using AutoCAD, ESRI/GIS, Visio, and MapCom. You will coordinate utility locates and prepare funding documents, ensuring all designs meet RUS and federal, state, and local standards. This role offers a clear path to grow your GIS and drafting skills within a supportive staffing environment.
What You'll Do9
- 1Support the creation of designs in ESRI/GIS, Visio, AutoCAD, and MapCom for utility network projects.
- 2Develop and issue work prints for utility networks, ensuring accuracy and clarity for field crews.
- 3Collaborate with Engineering and Construction teams to align design intent with project requirements.
- 4Prepare maps, diagrams, and drawings for installation and construction routes, highlighting key infrastructure.
- 5Create funding documents and work packages, listing applicable units, bill of materials (BOMs), and purchase requisitions.
- 6Ensure all facility designs comply with Company system practices, RUS requirements, and federal, state, and local regulations.
- 7Provide documentation to support the cost-effective placement of communication facilities.
- 8Coordinate and ensure proper utility locating has occurred before construction begins.
- 9Maintain organized project files and update drawings as changes occur.
Requirements6
- 11+ years of CAD or GIS experience, with AutoCAD proficiency strongly preferred.
- 2Knowledge of MapInfo, ESRI/GIS, Visio, AutoCAD, and MapCom is preferred.
- 3Strong organizational skills and experience with Excel and Word.
- 4Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for coordinating with teams and stakeholders.
- 5Professional accountability, with a focus on meeting project deadlines.
- 6Experience with utility networks or engineering drafting is a plus.
Salary Insight
$44 - $50k per year
