Frontend Engineer, React & TypeScript
Overview
You will own the user interface for Bobyard's AI-powered construction takeoff platform, handling dense, interactive drawing views and data-heavy estimate tables used daily by contractors. This is a Series A company backed by 8VC, Primary, and Pear, with a product that saves clients hours per project in a multi-trillion-dollar industry. You'll work directly with product and design from day one, turning rough direction into polished, production-ready features. What sets this role apart is the chance to tackle a niche frontend performance problem—canvas rendering and large data tables—that most junior engineers never get to touch, all in a fast, collaborative environment.
What You'll Do7
- 1Build and ship core product UI using React and TypeScript, turning rough mockups into polished, production-ready interfaces.
- 2Drive frontend performance work: optimize load times, smooth interactions, and responsive rendering of large drawings and data-dense tables with Canvas and WebGL.
- 3Own the component library, ensuring it's reusable, accessible, and consistent across the app.
- 4Collaborate with product and design to shape features, not just implement them, and iterate quickly based on feedback.
- 5Diagnose and fix frontend bugs, React state management issues, and rendering glitches for large data sets.
- 6Prototype new UI patterns and interactions, gathering feedback to refine the user experience.
- 7Scale the frontend architecture to handle hundreds of rows and canvas elements without jank, ensuring a seamless user experience for contractors.
Requirements9
- 13+ years building complex interfaces with React and TypeScript from the ground up.
- 2Expert-level CSS skills, including flexbox, grid, and animations, to build layouts without a UI library.
- 3Strong understanding of component architecture, state management (Redux, Zustand, or similar), and frontend performance optimization.
- 4Real design sense—you notice and fix spacing, hierarchy, and motion issues proactively.
- 5Comfortable working from rough product direction to deliver shippable features with minimal supervision.
- 6High ownership mindset: you don't wait for instructions to solve problems.
- 7Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
- 8Nice to have: Experience with Canvas or SVG for drawing/tooling interfaces.
- 9Nice to have: Personal projects or open-source work involving performance-sensitive UI.
