Frontend Architect, Next.js & React
Overview
You will own the front-end architecture for our headless web platform, defining how Next.js and React deliver a seamless experience to millions of users. You will lead a team of six engineers, collaborating with design, product, and content to ship scalable, accessible applications. This role stands out because you will drive the technical roadmap and mentor engineers in a hands-on capacity, with direct influence on performance and user experience.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design and implement the core Next.js application shell, ensuring modularity and reusability across the product.
- 2Build high-performance, accessible React components that meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
- 3Lead the migration from legacy front-end code to a TypeScript-based architecture over the first 90 days.
- 4Drive the integration of GraphQL APIs to enable efficient data fetching and state management.
- 5Collaborate with design and product to ship new features, breaking down complex UI into manageable components.
- 6Scale the front-end build system with Webpack and Babel, optimizing for fast load times and bundle size.
- 7Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and pair programming, fostering a culture of quality and ownership.
- 8Implement SEO best practices with Next.js Server-Side Rendering and static generation, improving search rankings.
Requirements8
- 15+ years building production web applications with React and Next.js.
- 2Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript and modern ES6+ JavaScript.
- 3Hands-on experience with GraphQL and REST APIs, including data normalization and caching.
- 4Proven track record architecting scalable component libraries and design systems.
- 5Deep understanding of Webpack, Babel, and module federation.
- 6Experience with headless CMS platforms like Contentful or Sanity.
- 7Strong accessibility (A11y) and performance optimization skills.
- 8Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and Docker for front-end deployment.
