Frontend Developer, Universities & Nonprofits Focus
Overview
Front End Developer will build user facing web apps and sites at scale for universities, arts organizations, and nonprofits. You will work on applications using modern frontend stacks and collaborate with designers, backend engineers, and clients. You will contribute to accessible, user friendly interfaces and durable code. Cast Iron Coding values craft, empathy, and long term maintainability.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build data driven frontend interfaces that render in the browser or on the server using Astro and TanStack Start
- 2Collaborate with designers and clients in meetings to articulate requirements for accessible interfaces
- 3Maintain and extend existing client projects across legacy technologies and newer stacks
- 4Implement semantic HTML, modern CSS, and JavaScript to meet WCAG guidelines
- 5Work with data from GraphQL APIs and communicate API design questions to the backend
- 6Review code, participate in QA and accessibility testing, and improve team practices
- 7Estimate work, track progress against budget in ClickUp, and raise scope concerns early
- 8Participate in regular frontend team meetings and contribute to process improvements
- 9Deliver durable, maintainable code that aligns with client goals and project constraints
- 10Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture with empathy and accountability
Requirements10
- 11+ year working with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- 2Experience building an application with a JavaScript framework
- 3Strong written communication skills
- 4Curiosity about how an application is put together and where data comes from
- 5Familiarity with the current JavaScript landscape including tooling, libraries, frameworks, and design patterns
- 6Experience with TypeScript or interest in learning it
- 7Experience with server side JavaScript and server rendering capabilities of frameworks like Astro or Next.js
- 8Comfort with data layers, queries, caching, loading and error states
- 9Familiarity with accessibility considerations and WCAG guidelines
- 10Experience with Git collaboration and code reviews
