Founding AI Engineer, Social Graph & LLM Matching
Overview
Own the AI core of a fast-growing startup that fights loneliness by matching Gen Z for in-person hangouts. You'll design and scale the Python-based matching engine, social graph, and multi-channel agent orchestration driving thousands of monthly meetups across hundreds of college campuses. Work directly with the founding team in San Francisco, shipping weekly and defining the product's technical soul. This role stands out for its direct impact on real-world social outcomes and the freedom to architect from scratch.
What You'll Do9
- 1Build a social graph from real-world interaction data, capturing friendship signals beyond online engagement.
- 2Design group-matching algorithms using collaborative filtering and graph embeddings to maximize compatibility.
- 3Develop ranking systems that balance user preferences, novelty, and logistic constraints for Saturday hangouts.
- 4Apply reinforcement learning to optimize matches based on post-event feedback and long-term friendship formation.
- 5Scale personalization pipelines to handle millions of data points with Airflow and Redis.
- 6Orchestrate AI agents across Instagram, iMessage, WhatsApp, and TikTok for onboarding, profiling, match delivery, and follow-up.
- 7Integrate messaging APIs and third-party services into a cohesive workflow with FastAPI and PostgreSQL.
- 8Craft human-AI interactions that feel natural and build trust, using LLMs and prompt engineering.
- 9Own the full lifecycle from prototype to production, measuring impact and iterating rapidly.
Requirements8
- 14-10+ years building AI/ML systems in production, with Python and PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- 2Strong backend skills with FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and containerization via Docker.
- 3Experience with multi-channel messaging APIs (e.g., Twilio, SendGrid, Meta Graph API) and agent frameworks.
- 4Proven ability to build and ship end-to-end features, from data pipelines to user-facing interactions.
- 5Familiarity with recommendation systems, social graphs, or large-scale personalization.
- 6A founding mindset: you ship fast, own problems completely, and thrive in ambiguity.
- 7Background in consumer social or marketplace products is a plus.
- 8On-site in San Francisco; visa sponsorship is not available.
