Forensic Associate, CPA & Litigation Support
Overview
Own forensic accounting analyses for high-stakes disputes, working directly with partners to uncover financial truth. You will trace funds, quantify economic damages, and prepare expert testimony support across matters like ownership disputes, marital dissolution, and white collar crime. The FVS Group at WithumSmith+Brown teams you with managers and senior managers to dissect complex financial records and build airtight cases. Within 3-5 seasons, you will progress toward expert witness status, attending settlement conferences and hearings. This hybrid role (3 days in office) offers a direct path to CPA licensure and courtroom experience rare at this level.
What You'll Do8
- 1Draft document requests that compel production of financial records for litigation support.
- 2Trace bank transactions to uncover hidden assets or fraudulent transfers using Excel and QuickBooks.
- 3Build lost profits models that calculate economic damages for breach of contract cases.
- 4Summarize and interpret financial statements, tax returns, and general ledgers for attorneys.
- 5Prepare forensic accounting reports that distill complex findings into clear expert opinions.
- 6Collaborate with managers and senior managers to design analysis strategies for each engagement.
- 7Present findings at settlement conferences and hearings, supporting senior team members.
- 8Manage multiple case files simultaneously, meeting deadlines under pressure.
Requirements8
- 13+ years in public accounting, including 1+ year in forensic accounting.
- 2Bachelor's or master's degree in accounting.
- 3Actively pursuing CPA designation.
- 4Experience with Excel pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial modeling.
- 5Strong analytical skills to interpret complex financial data.
- 6Excellent written and verbal communication for expert reports and testimony.
- 7Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a hybrid environment.
- 8Prior litigation engagement experience preferred but not required.
