Flex Driver Behavioral Health Transportation Specialist Columbus Ohio
Overview
The Behavioral Health Transportation Specialist (aka Flex Driver) oversees safe reliable supportive transportation for riders with intellectual developmental behavioral health and special needs. This Flex Driver role is cross-trained to serve as Driver and Vehicle Attendant alternating based on operational demands. Responsibilities include transporting riders ensuring compliance with policies and state regulations performing vehicle inspections securing equipment and supporting riders during transit.
What You'll Do11
- 1Safely transport riders to and from assigned destinations in accordance with company policies and state regulations
- 2Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections prior to and following assigned routes
- 3Ensure all required equipment is present and operational including communication devices first aid kits car seats safety equipment gas cards and other required materials
- 4Follow all defensive driving practices and traffic laws
- 5Assist riders with safely boarding and exiting the vehicle using proper procedures
- 6Secure seat belts safety harnesses adaptive equipment and child restraints as applicable
- 7Maintain awareness of rider behavior and surroundings to identify and address safety concerns
- 8Follow individualized rider safety or behavioral support plans as required
- 9Learn and follow emergency evacuation procedures and properly use safety and fire equipment
- 10Safeguard company property and maintain vehicle cleanliness through regular cleaning and disinfecting
- 11Perform other company functions as assigned by the Transportation Manager such as NEMT Driver Subrescue Driver or Student Driver
Requirements11
- 1Valid Ohio driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- 2Must be at least 25 years of age
- 3Experience using GPS based apps on a mobile device to navigate routes and record time
- 4Ability to obtain and maintain all required credentials and certifications including Ohio Department of Education driver certification
- 5Strong defensive driving skills
- 6Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in stressful situations
- 7Strong verbal and written communication skills
- 8Ability to work effectively with children and adults with intellectual developmental behavioral health or special needs
- 9Ability to pass background checks drug screening and company physical
- 10Qualifications include Ohio Educational Aide Permit preferred or ability to obtain if required
- 11Concrete experience using specific certifications such as Crisis Prevention Institute De-Escalation Training D.R.I.V.E. Passenger Assistance and Wheelchair Securement Training CPR/First Aid Behavioral Management Annual Safety Training Bloodborne Pathogens Communicable Disease Prevention Child Abuse & Neglect Awareness Injury Prevention
