You will provide face-to-face interpretation for medical, social service, and other appointments, leveraging your fluency in Amharic, Tigrinya, or Oromo to bridge communication gaps. What You'll Do9
- 1Interpret face-to-face during medical, social service, and other appointments, ensuring accurate communication in Amharic, Tigrinya, or Oromo.
- 2Schedule and accept assignments based on your availability, choosing to work as few or as many hours as you want.
- 3Navigate a variety of settings, from hospitals to community centers, adapting your interpreting style to each context.
- 4Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards outlined in Bridging the Gap or similar accredited training.
- 5Respond to assignment requests promptly, using the scheduling system to confirm or decline.
- 6Prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant terminology in your target languages.
- 7Provide feedback to Access 2 Interpreters to improve service quality.
- 8Complete required documentation after each assignment, noting outcomes.
- 9Coordinate with other interpreters for large events when needed.
Requirements8
- 1High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 2Located in the Central Ohio area.
- 3Eligible to work in the United States.
- 4Pass a Federal Criminal Background Check based on fingerprints and a 10-panel drug screening, at no cost to you.
- 5Provide proof of completion from an accredited interpreter training program of at least 40 hours, such as Bridging the Gap, Access Academy, or a certificate or degree in interpretation.
- 6Provide Certification of Bilingual Proficiency or complete a 3rd Party Bilingual Fluency Evaluation through an accredited testing organization.
- 7Speak English and Amharic, Tigrinya, and/or Oromo fluently.
- 8No prior professional interpretation experience required; welcoming ESL speakers.
