Experienced Metal Straightener
Overview
We seek a Full Time Experienced Metal Straightener to lead our straightening operations. This role drives correction of warped tooling using hand presses and a 20‑ton hydraulic press to meet exact specifications. Candidates will manage rush and priority jobs across high‑speed steel grades while maintaining minimal scrap. The position offers competitive pay and a collaborative environment.
What You'll Do7
- 1Independently straighten tooling across our full material range (M2 through high‑cobalt/powder‑metal HSS grades)
- 2Work both hot straightening and final straightening stations
- 3Read work tickets and apply correct techniques per material grade and temper stage
- 4Use dial indicators and gauges to verify straightness within tolerance
- 5Make judgment calls on borderline pieces to decide straighten, re‑treat, or reject
- 6Sign off completed work for shipping and mentor apprentice straighteners
- 7Identify recurring distortion issues to reduce rework
Requirements7
- 12+ years hands‑on metal straightening experience in heat treating or tool fabrication
- 2Knowledge of Rockwell hardness scales and how hardness/temper affects straightening
- 3Ability to make independent decisions on hardened tooling without double‑checking each piece
- 4Experience with hydraulic presses, hand presses, and precision measuring tools
- 5Track record of low scrap and rework rates
- 6Reliable and safety‑conscious in an industrial floor setting
- 7Physical stamina for standing and lifting up to 50 lb regularly
