
Epic Integration Engineer, Healthcare HL7 Interfaces
Overview
Own the integration of third-party lab systems with Epic using HL7 v2.x messaging protocols. You will design, build, and troubleshoot interfaces in a healthcare environment, partnering with clinical and IT teams to ensure reliable data flow. This role stands out for its hybrid schedule and direct impact on patient care through system interoperability.
What You'll Do8
- 1Build HL7 v2.x interfaces (ADT, ORM, ORU, SIU, DFT) between Epic and lab systems using Cloverleaf or similar tools.
- 2Configure and deploy integration solutions, ensuring alignment with healthcare standards and security requirements.
- 3Debug interface errors, analyzing message payloads and logs to resolve issues within HL7 workflows.
- 4Drive end-to-end testing of new interfaces, coordinating with clinical staff to validate data accuracy and timing.
- 5Design integration patterns for future third-party connections, documenting technical specifications and data mappings.
- 6Support production interfaces, monitoring message queues and responding to alerts to maintain uptime.
- 7Collaborate with Epic analysts to define interface requirements and translate clinical needs into technical solutions.
- 8Optimize existing interfaces for performance, reducing latency and improving data integrity across systems.
Requirements8
- 15+ years as an Integration Engineer in a healthcare environment.
- 2Hands-on experience integrating Epic with third-party healthcare applications.
- 3Strong knowledge of HL7 v2.x messaging (ADT, ORM, ORU, SIU, DFT).
- 4Experience building, configuring, troubleshooting, and supporting HL7 interfaces.
- 5Proficiency with integration tools such as Cloverleaf, Mirth, or Rhapsody.
- 6Ability to work on site in Oakland, CA at least one day per week.
- 7Familiarity with Epic integration APIs and data structures preferred.
- 8Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail in a production environment.

$114 - $125k per year
