Environmental Services Technician, Night Shift
Overview
Environmental Services Technician maintains the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in a sanitary, orderly condition on the night shift (11:00pm-7:30am). This role owns cleanliness across patient rooms, hallways, and public spaces, directly supporting patient safety and comfort. You'll join a collaborative team dedicated to Advance Human Ability through integrated science and clinical care. Work with EVS equipment and supplies, and handle floor care including stripping and waxing. Every shift contributes to the lab's mission as the global leader in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
What You'll Do9
- 1Clean patient rooms, hallways, and public areas: dust, mop, vacuum, and shampoo carpets.
- 2Disinfect walls, ceilings, windows, radiators, and blinds using chemical disinfectants.
- 3Replenish soap, towels, toilet paper, and other dispensables in restrooms and patient areas.
- 4Strip, buff, and apply wax to floors in designated zones on a routine schedule.
- 5Empty wastebaskets, transport trash to outdoor receptacles, and clean waste containers.
- 6Move and arrange furniture and equipment for meetings and patient care needs.
- 7Maintain outside grounds during summer; operate snow plow tractor for snow removal in winter.
- 8Remove soiled linens and make beds with fresh linens at patient discharge.
- 9Report maintenance needs to the Operations Manager for major repairs.
Requirements9
- 11+ years of housekeeping or EVS experience in a healthcare or hospital setting.
- 2Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform simple arithmetic.
- 3Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safe handling procedures.
- 4Capability to operate floor care equipment such as buffers and extractors.
- 5Ability to lift and transport up to 60 pounds.
- 6Availability for night shift (11:00pm-7:30am) including weekends and holidays.
- 7Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, families, and staff.
- 8Must pass background check and health screening.
- 9High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
