Environmental Engineer, Air Permitting & Compliance
Overview

What You'll Do10
- 1Serve as the primary technical contact for facility managers on air permitting, corrective actions, and regulatory compliance, using Title V and PSD frameworks.
- 2Evaluate federal, state, and local air rules like NSPS and NESHAP to document applicability for existing and new equipment, then communicate findings to operations teams.
- 3Maintain permit schedules, renewal calendars, and reporting deadlines across all facilities, tracking each requirement in the compliance software.
- 4Review permit applications, compliance reports, and technical documents before regulatory submission, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- 5Conduct environmental audits at multiple plants, identifying gaps and driving corrective actions to closure within 30-60 days.
- 6Develop and report environmental KPIs (e.g., emission reductions, permit deviations) to leadership each quarter.
- 7Administer the compliance management system, configuring task calendars, user access, and document storage for 5+ facilities.
- 8Monitor regulatory changes from EPA and state agencies, then translate them into actionable obligations for plant teams.
- 9Support facility modifications and capital projects by integrating environmental permit requirements into design reviews.
- 10Respond to agency inspections and notices of violation, preparing documentation and coordinating with legal counsel.
Requirements10
- 13+ years of environmental engineering experience in heavy manufacturing, with a BS in chemical or environmental engineering.
- 2Hands-on experience with Title V operating permits, PSD, and NSR permitting processes.
- 3Working knowledge of NSPS, NESHAP, and MACT standards, with ability to apply them to industrial equipment.
- 4Familiarity with Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, and EPCRA reporting requirements.
- 5Experience preparing environmental permit applications and regulatory reports for state and federal agencies.
- 6Proficiency with environmental compliance databases and Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- 7Strong analytical and project management skills, with ability to manage multiple deadlines across facilities.
- 8Up to 50% domestic travel required for audits, inspections, and project support.
- 9Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is a plus.
- 10Paper and packaging industry experience preferred, but not required.
