Overview

Emergency Veterinary Assistant role at VEG in Fort Lauderdale part time with exposure to high acuity emergency care. You will triage, assist with treatments, support anesthesia and diagnostics, and learn through guided pathways toward credentials. Work closely with credentialed technicians and veterinarians in a fast paced, pet centered environment. This is a growth role designed for individuals pursuing veterinary technician credentials or exploring a veterinary emergency career.

What You'll Do7

  • 1Build patient care by triaging incoming cases and guiding them toward appropriate treatment
  • 2Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics including bloodwork imaging catheter placement and oxygen support
  • 3Partner with veterinarians and technicians to set up monitor and support anesthesia and sedation cases
  • 4Set up and manage IV fluids blood products and medication administration
  • 5Support during outpatient and inpatient care from exam room to treatment area and participate in rounds
  • 6Learn CPR and pursue RECOVER Certified Rescuer training
  • 7Grow into advanced tasks such as anesthesia support ultrasound and catheterization through guided training

  • 1High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2Enrolled in an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program a plus
  • 31+ years in a veterinary assistant role emergency or specialty experience bonus
  • 4Basic computer skills and understanding of practice management software and EMR
  • 5Excellent communication with pet parents and team
  • 6Fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment
  • 7Ability to stand kneel and lift up to 25 kg alone and up to 40 kg with assistance
  • 8Willingness to work nights weekends and holidays on a rotating or as needed basis
  • 9Ability to thrive in a noisy environment with strong odors
  • 10Commitment to providing compassionate care and teamwork
