Embedded Software Test Engineer, BMS & Energy Storage
Overview
You will own automated test development for Battery Management System (BMS) products deployed in global energy storage installations, validating embedded software and hardware in a hands-on lab. You will build and execute regression, stress, and fault injection tests directly on controllers, sensors, and Linux devices. Your work spans Python scripting, SSH/SFTP file transfers, and Modbus TCP protocol verification. This contract role in Herndon, VA offers a hybrid schedule and direct collaboration with firmware and hardware teams.
What You'll Do10
- 1Develop and maintain automated test cases for embedded BMS systems, focusing on reliability and edge-case coverage.
- 2Design and execute regression test plans to support release validation for energy storage products.
- 3Build Python and Bash scripts that validate embedded functionality on physical hardware.
- 4Execute stress tests, fault injection, and reliability tests to expose system vulnerabilities.
- 5Transfer and validate files on embedded Linux devices using SSH and FTP/SFTP.
- 6Analyze logs and system outputs to identify and document software and hardware defects.
- 7Verify device communication using Modbus TCP, Ethernet, and TCP/IP protocols.
- 8Document test cases and results in Jira and Xray, ensuring traceability.
- 9Collaborate with software, firmware, and hardware teams to troubleshoot issues and improve quality.
- 10Support manufacturing and deployment testing for large-scale energy storage systems.
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- 25+ years in Quality Assurance, Test Engineering, Validation, or Test Automation.
- 3Proven experience testing embedded systems, hardware/software integrated products, or industrial control systems.
- 4Hands-on Python scripting for test automation.
- 5Bash scripting within embedded environments.
- 6Strong Linux troubleshooting and command-line skills.
- 7Experience using SSH, FTP/SFTP, and remote device administration.
- 8Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals and device validation.
- 9Experience developing test plans, procedures, and regression strategies.
- 10Ability to work directly with embedded devices, controllers, sensors, and physical hardware in a lab setting.
