Electrical and Controls Engineer, Oil & Gas I&C
Overview
You will own IC&E engineering support for Midland Basin facilities, from field walks to MOC routing. You will work with facilities, machinery, and operations teams to keep PLC and DCS systems running safely and efficiently. 5+ years in upstream oil and gas, with strong NFPA 70E and ISA code knowledge, sets you apart. What You'll Do10
- 1Conduct field walks and markup P&IDs and electrical drawings to reflect as-built conditions.
- 2Specify instrumentation and LV/MV electrical equipment, choosing the right sensors and control devices for onshore facilities.
- 3Oversee installation and setup of IC&E systems, ensuring they meet NEC and safety standards.
- 4Participate in HAZOPs, risk assessments, and critical operating parameter reviews to identify hazards.
- 5Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions for IC&E-related failures.
- 6Analyze data from SCADA, PLC, and DCS systems to improve process efficiency.
- 7Implement upgrades to control systems, including VFDs and protective relays, to align with industry standards.
- 8Provide shutdown engineering support and manage MOC processes for plant pressure equipment changes.
- 9Review contractor deliverables such as one-line diagrams, cause-and-effect diagrams, and wiring diagrams for compliance.
- 10Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to drive project goals and troubleshoot real-time control issues.
Requirements10
- 1B.S. in electrical engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 25+ years in upstream oil and gas production support.
- 3Strong knowledge of ISA84, API RP 551, and NEC codes.
- 4Proficient in NFPA 70E electrical safety and arc flash requirements.
- 5Hands-on experience with LV/MV motor controls, including VFDs and soft starters.
- 6Skilled in troubleshooting instrument loops, control tuning, and communication protocols like Modbus TCP/IP.
- 7Familiar with Ignition, SEEQ, and Spotfire for dashboard development.
- 8Experience with protective relay setting, testing, and coordination.
- 9Ability to read and review P&IDs and electrical drawings, including one-line and loop diagrams.
- 10Strong project management skills and adaptability to shifting priorities.
