Overview
You will own the satellite network that enables Emergency SOS, Roadside assistance, and Messages via satellite for iPhone and Watch Ultra, serving millions of users when off the grid. Working within the Satellite Connectivity Group, you will build and run the service enabling platform and its infrastructure, emphasizing build over operate. The stack spans Golang, Kubernetes, AWS, and Temporal, with a no-ops culture. This role offers rare end-to-end control from provisioning to monitoring, shaping critical services with global scale.
What You'll Do9
- 1Build large-scale distributed systems for the satellite network, focusing on Golang and Kubernetes.
- 2Design and implement infrastructure as code using Terraform and CloudFormation for cloud environments.
- 3Run multi-clustered, highly available services with zero-downtime deployments using Argo and Flux.
- 4Develop durable execution workflows on Temporal, Cadence, or Windmill for critical service reliability.
- 5Optimize real-time and batch data pipelines using Kafka, Spark, and Flink.
- 6Implement zero-trust security architecture across the service platform.
- 7Manage monitoring and metrics platforms such as Splunk and Prometheus for operational visibility.
- 8Scale services globally, handling IoT/Edge device compute and connectivity.
- 9Collaborate with domain experts to ensure system resilience and performance.
Requirements10
- 15+ years in software engineering or DevOps with Golang, Python, Rust, or C++.
- 2Proven experience with large-scale distributed systems, including replication and high availability.
- 3Strong background in Linux/UNIX administration, configuration, and monitoring.
- 4Built or contributed to batch or real-time processing systems using Kafka, Spark, or Flink.
- 5Extensive experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), including identity and pub/sub.
- 6Hands-on with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
- 7Expertise in containerization and orchestration with Docker and Kubernetes.
- 8Experience with durable execution frameworks (Temporal, Cadence, Windmill) is a plus.
- 9Knowledge of zero-trust architecture and modern web-scale services (load balancers, proxies).
- 10Familiarity with monitoring tools like Splunk and Prometheus.
