Senior Distributed Systems Engineer - Services Special Projects
Overview
Apple seeks a senior backend engineer to design and build massively scalable services that power experiences for customers. You will lead the evolution of a multi-tenant platform including AI/ML services while ensuring fault tolerance and high availability.
What You'll Do11
- 1Design and build new features with focus on scalability and resilience
- 2Create large-scale backend services resilient to failures
- 3Partner with cross-functional teams to ship customer-facing features via performant APIs
- 4Provide technical guidance and mentorship fostering a learning culture
- 5Deploy and optimize AI/ML models directly in transaction paths
- 6Implement security measures such as TLS and OAuth2
- 7Develop CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins or GitHub Actions
- 8Utilize AWS or GCP with Docker and Kubernetes for scalable services
- 9Work with Kafka for event streaming and stream processing
- 10Apply data storage solutions like Iceberg and Redis in production
- 11Identify and remediate security vulnerabilities in codebases
Requirements11
- 1Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
- 28+ years of professional software development experience building distributed systems
- 3Strong expertise in Java and optionally Go or C++
- 4Proficiency in Spring Boot and asynchronous frameworks like Netty or Project Reactor
- 5Deep knowledge of JVM tuning and profiling tools
- 6Experience with gRPC and RESTful APIs
- 7Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and container orchestration platforms
- 8Exposure to cloud-native environments on AWS or GCP
- 9Hands-on work with Kafka and distributed storage technologies
- 10Understanding of security protocols and serialization frameworks
- 11Ability to identify and resolve production security issues
