Director of Technology, Public IT Leadership & Security
Overview
The Director of Technology leads all municipal IT operations for Marblehead, guiding enterprise IT, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and digital services at scale. They manage an IT & Communications Specialist, align initiatives with the town’s strategic plan, and drive secure, reliable technology across departments from public safety to facilities. This role collaborates with external vendors and leverages Munis and MFA to improve processes and staff efficiency. The position offers a public-sector leadership path with a focus on governance, capital planning, and service delivery.
What You'll Do10
- 1Lead town-wide IT strategy and infrastructure to support scalable public services
- 2Manage networks, fiber, servers, security systems, and software platforms to ensure reliability and security
- 3Establish and enforce cybersecurity, disaster recovery, and data protection policies
- 4Serve as primary liaison with department heads, vendors, and external IT service providers
- 5Maintain hardware and software inventory, plan replacements, and ensure compliance
- 6Support town-wide tech systems including Office365, cloud tools, voting systems, and copiers
- 7Supervise the IT Communications Specialist, oversee training and customer service
- 8Prepare and manage division operating and capital budgets
- 9Attend Town Meetings to set up, operate, and optimize technology systems
- 10Oversee collaboration with external vendor to support public safety and desktop services
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor’s degree in computer science or IT required Master’s preferred
- 2Seven to ten years of IT experience with at least five in a leadership role ideally in public sector
- 3Certifications such as CISSP, PMP, ITIL, CETL are a plus
- 4CompTIA A+ and/or Network+ certification preferred
- 5Experience with Microsoft 365, Windows Server/Active Directory, and cloud security tools
- 6Strong project management, communication, and collaboration skills
- 7Working knowledge of fiber, network security, GIS, permitting software, SQL, and basic programming
- 8Public sector or multi-department experience strongly preferred
- 9Ability to align technology with strategic goals and long-term capital planning
- 10Demonstrated experience in governance and enterprise IT operations
Salary Insight
$92 - $120k per year
