Director of Communications & Marketing (Part-Time) - GMA Foundations
Overview
GMA seeks a Director of Communications and Marketing to lead communications and brand efforts supporting relationship-driven growth. This part-time role reports to the Co-Managing Director of Strategy. The Director shapes GMA's field presence by clarifying voice, strengthening reputation, and enabling confident representation. Responsibilities include developing strategy, guiding outreach, maintaining relationship maps, stewarding brand, leading content, supporting events, and developing team members. This unique role blends strategic leadership with hands-on execution to drive visibility and pipeline growth.
What You'll Do20
- 1Develop and implement communications and marketing strategy with co-managing directors
- 2Contribute to firm-wide priorities as a leadership team member
- 3Establish consistent processes for high-quality communications outreach
- 4Guide relationship-driven growth through visibility outreach and follow-up
- 5Maintain relationship and visibility map ensuring focus and accountability
- 6Identify visibility opportunities such as speaking engagements and partnerships
- 7Steward brand voice messaging and visual identity across all channels
- 8Articulate GMA's value for prospects partners and peers
- 9Write customized emails and proposals aligned with GMA's value proposition
- 10Lead content creation engaging key audiences and support growth initiatives
- 11Standardize email communications and promote event promotion follow-up
- 12Oversee planning for future website refresh
- 13Support communications strategy for GMA-hosted events and pooled funds
- 14Guide communications for one or two foundation assistants providing coaching and guidance
- 15Track contacts and relationships using simple systems for continuity
- 16Monitor engagement metrics and refine approach over time
- 17Coordinate with internal team to turn visibility into ongoing relationships
- 18Build internal capacity for authentic external presence
- 19Provide coaching on networking outreach and follow-up
- 20Collaborate across teams to enhance visibility and relationship-building
Requirements13
- 1Bachelor’s degree and 7–10 years of experience in communications marketing or related fields or master’s degree plus 4–5 years relevant experience
- 2Experience developing and implementing communications outreach strategies
- 3Support business development through client-facing proposal writing
- 4Preferred experience in philanthropy nonprofit consulting or professional services
- 5Familiarity with brand development or website strategy
- 6Coaching or mentoring colleagues
- 7Excellent written and oral communication skills
- 8Ability to collaborate across teams and influence without direct authority
- 9Interest in nonprofit and philanthropic sector
- 10Commitment to inclusive culture
