Overview

Direct Support Professionals own the care of developmentally disabled adults in long term residential settings across Nassau and Suffolk counties. You will support daily living activities, skills development, and medication administration in a team environment of dedicated caregivers. What You'll Do10

  • 1Build and transport residents on outings to community activities
  • 2Coach residents in daily living skills and administer medications as prescribed
  • 3Provide person centered care including personal care tasks as needed
  • 4Perform household tasks including meal preparation and cleanup to maintain a safe living environment
  • 5Collaborate with team to ensure safety and smooth operation of group homes
  • 6Document care practices and communicate changes to supervisors
  • 7Support crisis de escalation and maintain calm, respectful interactions
  • 8Participate in shift handoffs and team planning to meet resident goals
  • 9Assist with scheduling and transportation logistics as required
  • 10Support residents during activities and community outings to promote independence

Requirements10

  • 1HS diploma or GED
  • 2Valid NYS Driver’s License
  • 3Ability to perform tasks requiring stooping, crouching, and 2-person lifting up to 250 pounds
  • 4Ability to respond calmly during residents physical or emotional outbursts
  • 5Part-time evening, weekend and on call availability
  • 6Experience working with developmentally disabled adults is a plus
  • 7Must be able to work in person at multiple site locations
  • 8Ability to pass background checks and respond to emergencies as needed
  • 9Own transportation or reliable access to work locations
