Direct Support Professional, Developmental Disabilities
Overview
As a Direct Support Professional in our waiver services, you will own the daily support and advocacy for individuals with intellectual, developmental, and behavioral health challenges. You will work one-on-one and in groups, helping people set and achieve personal goals through their Centered Plans. You will join a dedicated care team in the Lincolnton and Crestview areas, reporting to a supportive supervisor. This role stands out for its variety: you will act as coach, advocate, and companion, working both in homes and the community to foster independence and well-being.
What You'll Do10
- 1Promote healthy living and prevent illness and accidents through daily wellness checks and safety practices.
- 2Increase awareness of self-advocacy and support individual choice and decision-making in all interactions.
- 3Accompany people to work, movies, concerts, shopping, and other community outings to build social connections.
- 4Teach independent living skills such as cooking, cleaning, and budgeting to increase self-sufficiency.
- 5Provide transportation to appointments and errands using your own vehicle, with valid driver's license and insurance.
- 6Foster positive relationships within the community by modeling effective communication and social engagement.
- 7Assist with personal care and bathing, plus household tasks like laundry, cleaning, and decorating.
- 8Document all care provided accurately and timely in the required systems.
- 9Educate individuals on human, legal, and civil rights and connect them to resources for career, education, and volunteer opportunities.
- 10Administer medication where state law allows, following all safety protocols and documentation requirements.
Requirements9
- 1High School Diploma or GED preferred
- 218+ years old
- 3Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- 4Ability to pass a criminal background check, including OIG exclusions, Child Abuse Registry, and Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities
- 5Pass drug testing and employment verification
- 6Basic computer skills for documentation
- 7Strong conflict resolution and communication skills
- 8Commitment to maintaining confidentiality
- 9Ability to work full-time 2nd and 3rd shifts
