Direct Support Professional, CILA & Daily Living Skills
Overview
You will own daily living skill instruction for residents in the Canfield CILA, ensuring each person reaches their highest level of independence. You work with a small team to coordinate scheduling, manage supplies, and maintain a safe, clean home. You drive agency vehicles and accompany residents to appointments and community activities. This role combines hands-on care with administrative coordination, making a direct impact on quality of life. You will become certified in CPR and First Aid within 120 days, adding to your DSP credential.
What You'll Do10
- 1Teach daily living skills: personal hygiene, grooming, housekeeping, laundry, meal prep, budgeting, and socialization, with physical assistance as needed.
- 2Implement individual and group programs that build independence, following each resident's Independent Habilitation Plan (IHP).
- 3Coordinate resident schedules to ensure timely arrival at day programs, jobs, and appointments, and transport residents using agency vehicles.
- 4Document daily progress, shift reports, van logs, incident reports, and MAR sheets, submitting them on time.
- 5Monitor facility cleanliness and safety, performing housekeeping tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, and mopping, and supervising bedroom upkeep.
- 6Supervise medication administration per program guidelines, and monitor residents' wellness and safety, enforcing curfew when required.
- 7Plan menus and assist with meal preparation, accommodating special dietary needs.
- 8Respond to medical and behavioral emergencies using CPR, First Aid, and aggression management techniques, reporting incidents to supervisors.
- 9Attend and participate in all IHP staffings and staff meetings, contributing to care plans.
- 10On arrival, check all rooms to confirm residents are home, secure doors and windows, and activate the alarm system nightly.
Requirements10
- 1Two years of college, or one year of college plus two years of full-time related work experience, or high school diploma plus five years of full-time related work experience.
- 2Proof of Direct Service Professional (DSP) training required.
- 3Pass TABE test within 120 days of hire.
- 4Valid driver's license and ability to drive agency vehicles.
- 5Ability to physically assist residents with grooming and hygiene tasks.
- 6Knowledge of IHP planning and implementation.
- 7CPR and First Aid certification required (or obtain within specified timeframe).
- 8Experience in behavioral health or residential care preferred.
- 9Strong documentation and reporting skills.
- 10Willingness to perform housekeeping and cleaning duties.
