Design Engineer, MEP Systems for Multifamily Projects
Overview
You will own MEP design for large-scale multifamily projects across California, from concept through construction. As part of a 1,500-person MEP contractor, you will work with teams using AutoCAD and Revit to deliver coordinated systems. Your work ensures code compliance and quality across multiple business units. Depending on your level, you will mentor junior staff, lead complex designs, or manage projects independently. What You'll Do9
- 1Develop plumbing, HVAC, and electrical designs for multifamily buildings from concept to construction documents.
- 2Perform engineering calculations including heating/cooling loads, ventilation rates, equipment sizing, and electrical load analysis.
- 3Prepare and review technical drawings and specs using AutoCAD and Revit.
- 4Apply codes like CPC, CMC, NEC, ASHRAE, and local building codes.
- 5Coordinate designs with architectural and structural teams to resolve clashes.
- 6Be the primary design contact, working with project managers and contractors.
- 7Support construction admin by reviewing submittals, answering RFIs, and observing field work.
- 8Conduct QA/QC reviews of junior staff work and mentor Design Engineer I team members.
- 9Improve company design standards and templates.
Requirements9
- 1Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering.
- 20-3 years of MEP design experience (internships accepted) for Design Engineer I.
- 33+ years of MEP design experience for multifamily or commercial systems for Design Engineer II.
- 46+ years of progressive MEP design experience for Design Engineer III.
- 5EIT certification preferred for level I, required for level II, and PE license preferred for level III.
- 63-6 years of relevant MEP design experience in multifamily or mixed-use projects.
- 7Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit required; Navisworks, Bluebeam, or BIM 360 preferred.
- 8Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical system design.
- 9Authorization to work in the U.S. without future sponsorship.
Salary Insight
$70 - $130k per year
