Dental Assistant EFDA - Multnomah County
Overview
You'll assist Dentists and Dental Hygienists in delivering dental care to underserved patients across Multnomah County, performing all aspects of 4-handed dentistry and expanded functions. You'll hold a valid EFDA certificate and BLS CPR certification, working within Integrated Clinical Services to ensure access to education, prevention, and treatment. In this onsite role, you'll manage operatories, control infection, and support patient flow. You'll join a team of dental professionals dedicated to quality health services for those facing barriers to care, with the stability of a county health department and a union-represented position.
What You'll Do8
- 1Perform 4-handed dentistry using efficient techniques, mixing materials, placing rubber dams, and taking study model impressions.
- 2Anticipate provider needs during treatment, keeping dentists and hygienists informed of schedule changes and unfilled appointments.
- 3Triage emergency patients and make providers aware of client needs.
- 4Perform expanded functions: rubber cup prophylaxis, applying sealants, polishing amalgams, placing and removing matrix retainers, removing excess cement, and placing temporary restorations.
- 5Set up and disinfect operatories following proper procedures, ensuring instruments and supplies are available for patient care.
- 6Report repair needs, observe PPE guidelines, and monitor supply inventory levels.
- 7Interact with patients respectfully, monitor wait times, and keep patients informed of schedule delays.
- 8Conduct phone follow-up and documentation for missed patient appointments, acting as liaison with treatment staff and providers.
Requirements6
- 1Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade.
- 2Valid EFDA certificate including radiologic proficiency from the Oregon State Board of Dental Examiners.
- 3BLS CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- 4Successful completion of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation for pit and fissure sealant application.
- 5Successful completion of required courses of instruction prior to certification.
- 61 year of responsible dental assistant experience (preferred).
