Data Platform Operations Engineer, Snowflake Support
Overview
You will own the operational health and availability of our Snowflake-based data platform, serving enterprise-scale analytics across multiple business units. You will join a cloud data support team of 12 engineers and work alongside AWS, Terraform, and Databricks specialists. This contract role in Dallas focuses on first-line support, disaster recovery, and cross-team collaboration to maintain SOC 2 and GDPR compliance. You will drive incident response and proactive monitoring in a 24/7 environment.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build and maintain monitoring dashboards for Snowflake query performance and warehouse utilization.
- 2Lead first-line support for platform applications, triaging incidents with PagerDuty and Jira.
- 3Design and execute disaster recovery exercises to validate AWS failover and data restoration procedures.
- 4Drive automation of routine operational tasks using Python and Terraform to reduce manual effort.
- 5Collaborate with data engineering teams to optimize Snowflake table structures and clustering keys.
- 6Own compliance audits by generating access logs and retention reports from AWS CloudTrail.
- 7Debug and resolve connection issues across VPC, PrivateLink, and S3 stages.
- 8Scale capacity planning by analyzing Snowflake usage patterns and forecasting future needs.
- 9Document standard operating procedures and incident runbooks for the team.
- 10Improve alerting accuracy by tuning thresholds for Datadog and CloudWatch metrics.
Requirements8
- 13+ years in data platform or DevOps roles with hands-on Snowflake administration.
- 22+ years working with AWS services including EC2, S3, and IAM.
- 31+ years scripting with Python or Bash for automation.
- 4Experience with Terraform or CloudFormation for infrastructure as code.
- 51+ years using Datadog or CloudWatch for monitoring and alerting.
- 6Familiarity with Snowflake security features: RBAC, SCIM, and KMS encryption.
- 7Knowledge of networking concepts like VPC, PrivateLink, and DNS.
- 8Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
