Dance Instructor - Cheerleading Youth Program
Overview
Dance Instructor will own cheerleading classes for youth ages 4-12, designing and teaching routines that build confidence and skill. The program serves 20+ students per season across multiple age groups. Reporting to the Program Director, you'll collaborate with a team of instructors to deliver a positive, youth-focused experience. This part-time role offers flexible hours and room to grow as the program expands.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design and implement dance lessons in cheerleading and other forms of dance for ages 4-12.
- 2Lead classes of 10-15 students, adjusting choreography to skill levels.
- 3Collaborate with fellow instructors to create routines for performances and showcases.
- 4Provide individual feedback on technique and encourage personal growth.
- 5Manage classroom behavior to maintain a safe, positive environment per YMCA child protection practices.
- 6Serve as an adult role model, connecting with students and parents.
- 7Track attendance and ensure class rosters are current.
- 8Develop curriculum aligned with YMCA Core Values of Caring, Respect, Honesty, and Responsibility.
Requirements7
- 11+ years experience teaching dance or cheerleading to youth.
- 2Proficiency in one or more dance forms (jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, or cheer).
- 3Ability to lift 25 lbs and move actively during classes.
- 4CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.
- 5Availability for Saturday mid-morning to late afternoon and weekday afternoons.
- 6Experience working with children and teens in a structured setting.
- 7Strong communication skills for interacting with youth, parents, and staff.
Salary Insight
